Default Tarp Find '29 Coupe...update, now running...

I've been mostly into V8s, but found this coupe while jogging in my neighborhood a few years ago and was finally able to buy it just today. It's been under a tarp too long, the paint has deteriorated and the mice have taken their toll on the interior, but the engine # matches the title and there's essentially no rust-through anywhere, believed to be a 44,000 original mile car, although it has been repainted, a lighter green is visible under the spots where the darker green has peeled off. I'll get more pics this weekend.

Great looking car, it shows how damaging a tarp cover can be to the finish. Have fun sanding, looks solid though. You saved it just in time.

I would not bother sanding it. I would drive it like it is. It dont look to bad. Get what ever mechanical done to it and drive it.

Great looking car. Somehow I would try to keep the patina-look if it will clean up OK.

Good looking car as is. I agree with clean and lube and drive it as is.

The fan belt looks like it's pulled too tight. It's also a bit worn and setting in the groove deeper than a new belt would be. I don't worry too much about some wear, as long as it isn't hard and cracking, or the outer layer starting to shread. Generators don't need to be very tight, just tight enough so the fan and generator don't slip.

Do you know where it was assembled?

See my website under Additional Studies...then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes and there you will find just how to ID the Assembly Plant.

Wow, great website! Thanks for compiling that and for posting it here.

My body # is TC1348, so it was the 1,348th (1929?) body produced at the Twin City, MN, assembly plant. The gas tank is dated July 25, 1929, and the serial # corresponds to being stamped 5 days later on July 30, 1929. Very cool info!

Thanks Randy for that.

Actually, I think it was the 1,348 "coupe" body produced at TC plant.

And it is a "standard" coupe and not a "special coupe" for this time period as the special coupe was phased out about the end of July 1929.

This vehicle...if all original, was produced sometime in August 1929. It would be fun to take the MARC/MAFCA Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards and compare the features within and to the car itself.

The use of "standard" coupe designation was introduced into the FORD volcabulary in 1930.

It appears???that someone converted it from a trunk to a rumble seat.

Right, I guess the 1348th for the model year 1929?

That would be an interesting comparison. It was converted from trunk to rumbleseat. They never did even put the catch up top for the latch.

Thanks.

I know you are a v-8 guy and you have some beauties but that car is screaming for some 16's with firestones. Don't hate me everyone.
