46-48 Ford hood alignment
What is the best way to line up the hood on the 46-48 Ford cars? I'm just kind of mocking things up right now and I have to push down in the back to get it close enough to latch and the hood sides are really close to the cowl.

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
We just discussed this on another site. If you can get a copy of the May/June, 2009 issue of the V-8 Times there is an article with pictures on how it's done. If you can't locate a copy I can snail mail a copy.

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
The article that woodie mentioned is the best reference. Lacking that, most of the adjustment is at the cowl - specifically the bolts that extend under the dash area. Things work a bit opposite of normal meaning that moving things down tends to raise the fit and vice-versa. You also may need to adjust the fenders as part of the process.

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
Even if you send it through the copy machine that would be appreciated. If you send magazines via USPS it's like $2 to send "media". I can send you my address. Thanks

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
What do I do about the pinching on the sides of the cowl? Can I just bend it back without affecting anything else

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
Three bolts where? On the cowl? On the hood?

Re: 46-48 Ford hood alignment
I had just the opposite problem on my '41 Fordor. the hood sides were way out away from the cowl. After years of messing with it I removed the hinge springs and it fit perfectly. tried all the tricks and NOS hinges. went with a prop rod. A friend of mine painted his '47 and when we attempted to install the hood, it hit the cowl in the center and sides were 3" too high!
