Default 1938 Ford Deluxe Coupe Rear Seat back support.

The rear seat back support has a curve at top support outline is strengthened with a metal strip. See picture. This being on LHS on RHD car.
The purpose for this shaped piece is ?? Must be a reason or else it would just have timber straight across?
thoughts?
Thanks

Phil, I think that the cut-out is for the spare wheel mounted vertically in the trunk. Mercman <><

Yes I had thought along those lines was just seeking confirmation.
And the "cut out" was indeed from factory and not a local owners modification?
As I thought as in the case of a coupe the spare wheel may sit in this area behind the seat.

I know that the spare tire was sometimes located behind the driver's seat on the 1937 models, but I thought they always had the split back front seat. Your frame looks like it is for the one-piece seat back that flips up to access the compartment behind the front seat. It sure looks like the cutout is for the interior mounted spare wheel.

Yep you are correct the frame is a one piece seat back which flips to access compartment behind the seat. Was thinking about stowing the spare in this space. As do not have the clamps etc for stowage i the runk area.
