Bob,
Ok complete. Under 5k #. Great! Appreciate the info!
Working in the shop tonight on the double sliding door track install.
Took the 32 over to grandson Nic's place and had a frosty adult beverage with him.
He has four boys at home and has his hands full. Plus his electrical business. Good to visit with those young folks. He got a real nice turkey this morning!
Hope things are good in Ford land!
Regards,
Chris

Ford folks,
Weather is finally improving in our neck of the woods. Made lap around the block about 5 miles, at dusk on the back roads! Very nice ride in the 32. Maybe hit 35- 40 mph?
Regards,
Chris

Ford folks,
Well things change for sure. As you know I like to post pictures and spend time doing that. That may change. Some will say thank goodness! It seem that the imgur app has taken a turn for the worse. I hope my posted pictures stay as there are in this thread, but I have no idea.
I am going to recycle the oil in the 32 and go for a ride in the country!
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Trying to use Photobucket for image hosting.

Ok just like shearing a pig: Lots of squealing for the little bit of hair you get!
Any way I did somehow get a picture/s into photobucket and got one out! Whoooo Hoooo!

This is the ragged ol' truck with my friend Keith T in front of it. Both of them are 90 this year!

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Ok still in the learning process of new picutre storage and upload.
The story here is the 90 year old starter drive pooped the bed over at Keith's house a couple days ago. Cheryl had to come and rescue me and I had to use a few of Keith's tools to get it off. John (42 Deluxe) had a new bendix spring and that got me going again. But part of the old bendix was broken. So John called me yesterday and said he was coming over with an new bendix for the truck. He helped me get the old one off and the new one installed! Wow does it start better! Thanks John!

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
We get great sunsets! They seem to look even better from inside the ragged ol' truck! I just need a short 5 mile ride to get my evening fix.
This morning I stopped in to visit with John (42 Deluxe). He is coming along well with his brakes on his 42.
I spent 4+ hours on a Farmall model a tractor. Mowing grass at the local tractor club.
We will host a antique plow day tomorrow. I think our daughter may drop in to turn some dirt too!
Hope things are good in Ford land.
Regards,
Chris

Chris, keep on Truckin!
The longer you keep that ol truck, the more new refurbished parts she'll have and soon enough she'll be like new off the assembly line. That's how my Model "A" is lookin.

Al, folks,
The truck gets just enough attention to run move and rile up the neighborhood. Guys at local gun shop were talking about it!

AACA club will tour our shop and stuff tomorrow night after dinner mtg. Have to fix the starter on the 32 again.
Had good day Saturday with antique tractors , plowing 30 acres. About 12 tractors made before 1960 and no more than 4 bottom plows.

Regards,
Chris

Folks,
The starter on the 32 big truck. Well the Bendix spring broke again. I installed a good used spring that John (42 Deluxe) gave me. Truck started right up!
While I had it on the bench. I kicked it over with the jump pack. I looks like the starter shaft may have some wobble??
Down at the starter drive end it may not be much. But that could be causing the Bendix spring to break??
Truck seemed to be happy.
The pull wire for the starter, broke again, but seems to work and not make contact when pushed in.
The truck is starting to grow on me!
Regards,
Chris

Hey Chris - I can't remember, are you running it on 6 volts or 12 volts? If it is a 6 volt starter that is being ran on 12 volts, then the RPMs and load this creates (while really turning the engine over) can be very hard on a starter and break the bendix. If this is the case, then you should get the starter reworked (or do it yourself) to make it a true 12 Volt starter.

On the V8 starters this can be done by purchasing a later 50's Ford starter and swapping parts - not a big deal - not sure if you can do this on your starter (maybe the guts are the same as a V8???). Or if you're lucky enough to have a good starter/generator shop, they can do it for you (not many of those around these days!).

Best of luck!

Dale, folks,
Yes I think this 12 volt starter may be the ultimate answer. Or maybe the bent shaft could be causing issues.
Thanks for the support and suggestion.
Did you get those guide lights on a car yet?
Regards,
Chris

Thank you for your story. Fun and interesting to read threw from start to finish. The 32 BB is perfect. I might have missed it but what is the square footage of your shop? If you had to do it over would you have gone bigger?

Can there ever be a shop too large?

Brian,
Unless you have some strange ability to control getting more things then Jeff is correct!
My shop is 40 x 64. Original layout was 32 x 60.
Change may have been to go with 12 foot eave height, or maybe even 14. Then a leantoo could be added. I really didn't have room for the leantoo feature so just made the building a little bigger.
The sq footage is 2560.
Might have went with 3 zones of control, for heat.
If it was bigger, I would get more stuff!
I can't pull a camper in here. Doors are 9 foot high in a 10 foot room, very tight!
Make it so you can get your truck in there. That's why I added 4 ft to the length. Glad I did.

Had our AACA club meeting here tonight after a nice dinner. All the folks seemed to like the building!
The 32 truck was a hit! They were all over it!
Regards,
Chris

Apart from the Bendix gear and half of the brushes, the '32-'33 four cylinder starter motors share basically nothing with their V8 counterparts. The '34 model four-cylinder starter motor is in fact the V8 starter motor with a unique rear plate that provides for the transition of the two-bolt attachment of the V8 starter motor to the three-bolt attachment of a four-cylinder starter motor to the flywheel housing.

The '34 starter motor (or just the rear plate) is a bit of a challenge to find given that fours were no longer offered mid-way through the '34 model year and the numbers built earlier were down markedly progressively through '33 and into 1934.

While I understand the value of a 12 volt starter on a V8 engine, 12 volt starters are overkill on a four, in my opinion.
