Cold weather coming
My question is simple....
Extreme cold coming and I'm protected to -10 on the antifreeze engine and radi ator. To play it safe, I opened the petcock on the low radiator tube to hose. Drained all the fluid that would come out. Is this enough to protect the engine. The reason I did this is because in the cars current location, I can't run the engine. I believe I'm ok temperature wise, but I was wondering if there are areas in the engine that will not drain. No heat in the garage. Tom |

Re: Cold weather coming
You are probably fine. As others have said poke a small piece of wire up throgh the hole in the drain cock just to make sure rust hasn't plugged it up leaving a bit of water in there.

Re: Cold weather coming
As long as the engine is setting fairly level, how you drained it will be adequate. (Remember your battery too.)

Re: Cold weather coming
Thanks for the quick answer. I also removed the tube is I know all drained out by gravity that can come out.

Re: Cold weather coming
I had the garage door up and worked outside today. In the shade it wasn't bad.

Re: Cold weather coming
Even if you didn't get it all out, and by chance you did get some freezing, there aren't any passages completely full that expansion would cause a problem.
