Default Fuel Lines to Pump and Downdraft

Hi,

So I am adding a fuel pump to feed my Stromberg 81. Mounting a Carter P4259 and a Holley 12-804 to the frame rail below the carb. What is the best choice for fuel lines. From the sediment bowl containing micro filter to the pump. From the regulator to the carb. Best line material? Fittings?

Running gravity feed now. 12" of 3/8" dia. hose from a nipple on the sediment bowl to a banjo fitting on the Stromberg.

Thanks,
Jerry

Personally I would use metal all the way, probably Ni-copp as it is easier to form than steel.

Also I would install an inertia switch or some other similar device to shut off the electric pump if something BAD were to happen and you were not able to. Just something to think about.

A guy in our club just had a fire in his new (to him) PU. It had a setup like you are using now.

I have a Revolution Electronics fuel pump controller on the way. It works off tach signals to keep pump running.

Thanks,

Either copper or steel work equally well. Use a flex line between the pump and carb because the engine moves a bit.

Same thing as Jim stated. I use a rubber line from my regulator to the engine for vibration reasons.

I also use metal lines with rubber connectors. Now I would use Ni cop.

On a gravity flow system, I've found that BANJO fittings are NOT condusive to a good flow!

Think I would install an "switched" emergency power supply to the pump, just in case of electronic controller failure.

I used Aeroquip Stainless Steel Braided hose to make up my fuel lines. I also used Aeroquip fittings for all the connections.

From the fuel tank: Ball Valve -> Fuel Filter -> Electric Shut-off Valve -> Carter Fuel Pump -> Holly Fuel Pressure Regulator -> Stromberg 97 Carb.

Thanks for all of the input. I went with ni-copp from the sediment bowl/filter to the pump mounted on the frame and up to the regulator on the firewall. Then hose from the regulator to the carb. Revolution Electronics controller as posted above.

Thanks,

Great idea ...

It operates the same way as the Electronic Fuel Injection on the 1969 VW Type III.

The EFI ran pump for 5 seconds to prime the fuel loop with 28 LBs pressure to the injectors then pump was turned off.

Next the ECU waited for a pulse from the trigger contact assembly in bottom of the distributer at which time the pump relay was picked and held to run pump until key was turned off.
