Default Model T Water Pump

Has anyone tried using a Model T water pump on a Model A?

I would ask why? I have a waterpump already on my car from the factory.

That would push the water through rather than pull like the A does. I have read about applications where pusher pumps were used, like speed related stuff.

Starting in 1937 all the flathead V-8s used "pusher pumps".

Over the years many aftermarket pumps were made.
Some better than others.

They were often used in race cars, pushing the water insures there are no bubbles in the system. The T had no water pump from the factory but many companies made the aftermarket.

First thing I did after purchasing my 1926 Touring, took off the after market water pump.
The Model T's were made to operate on the thermosyphon system without a pump. The aftermarket pumps were used as a band aide for cars that had faulty radiators or other problems with keeping the engine at a low enough temperature.
Aftermarket water pumps for Model T's make nice shop ornaments or rather large paperweights.

Al in NY, I have wondered the same thing. I am glad you raised the question. I thought it would be a good change to push the water instead of "helping" it from the top of the block up to the radiator. I always assumed that the Model T pump would be undersized for the Model A though.
So, I will repeat Al's question, has anyone seen this done?

That's true, then it was discontinued as it was deemed unnecessary, and also to cut production costs.

I repeat, race cars used them, if they would coll a race car they will cool your street-driven car.

The Model A is a combination thermosyphon and water pump system. The thermosyphon system provides more flow at low engine rpm and the water pump at higher engine rpm. It works to regulate the engine temperature to some degree.

If you are going to add any kind of pusher pump that can deliver lots of flow, you should install a thermostat. If you are building a race car then a thermostat is probably not necessary as you will need all the cooling you can get.

Not necessarily so, conventional wisdom would suggest that more power output would require more cooling. By using a thermostat in the system, you have the added control of temperature to maintain consistent performance. (quicker to warm up) In addition, the thermostat provides a restriction to the system to slow the water passing thru the radiator, this provides more time to transfer the heat and actually provides more cooling.
