Tcp global lacquor paint
I am in the process of purchasing paint for my restoration project. I would like to use Lacquer as I have had a lot of experience with it thru the years.
Have any one used Acrylic Lacquer from TCP Global? Is it good quality? Is there a better source for Lacquer Paint? I would appreciate any comments you may have. Thanks, Chris W. Last edited by CWPASADENA; 12-22-2019 at 08:30 PM. Reason: CLARIFICATION |

Re: Tcp global lacquor paint
This is a great topic!!! I would love to buy some lacquer paint as well. In Michigan I believe that they outlawed the sale off lacquer paint please post a number or any other information on how I could get this type of paint. Lately I have been using ppg concepts it’s ok but shelf life is not very good ,I have some unmixed lacquer over 10:years old and still useable

Re: Tcp global lacquor paint
There are only a couple of counties remaining in Calif. where old nitro. or acrylic lacquer may be sold or sprayed. TCB Global Restoration line lacquer is OK but TCP won't sell to addresses in Calif. or sprayed by pro's. They do mix colors to match the old Ditzler Model A color charts and can match samples if using single stage urethane. They will sell to states where lacquer is still legal.

Does Hibernia Restorations still mix and sell lacquer? They did a couple of years ago.

I used it on a 40 coupe that is cloud mist grey. I really like using it comparable to Dupont from years ago.

Whose ever lacquer you can get today most likely won't match what was formulated in the 1960 - 1990's because since that time the Feds outlawed many of the original dangerous 'oxide' tints. This left the manufactures scrambling to re-formulate their colors with 'allowable' tints. Short version, modern colors may not match older ones perfectly Last issue is the availability quality lacquer thinners. Today's plastic paints don't come close to matching the beauty of a quality lacquer finish done by an experienced craftsman. |

Re: Tcp global lacquor paint
About 15 years ago, I got some Lacquer from Hibernia and ago, few years later, I got some of the same color from TCP. The TCP color was a lot closer to the original than Hibernia.
I also was able to get the good thinners from TCP at that time. I think they still have them today. Chris W. |

Re: Tcp global lacquor paint
I bought the nitrocelulose lacquer for my Tudor from Hibernia back in 2000 and I couldn't be happier with the results of how it turned out. Chris brought up a good point about being able to get good thinners today.I had that problem when I painted my early 28 Coupe last year. Most all of the thinners that I could get were way too hot. I finally found some slow dry thinner from a paint store in Mesa, Az. They might also be a source for lacquer. They are Space Age Automotive Paints on Country Club Dr. In Mesa.
As a side note back to Hibernia, they had a tent at Hershey maybe four years ago with an early Packard that was painted in their nitro lacquer. It was the most beautiful paint job I have seen in years. The debth of the color was just incredible. |

Re: Tcp global lacquor paint
Today, I ordered paint from TCP Global.
They have the good thinners and also primer/surface. They were very professional and knowledgably. I will keep you posted as to how the job turns out. Thanks for everyone's comments. |
