oil pan info
I believe that this is a 1950 or 1951 mercury pan ? On the rear of the pan are 3 fine thread bolts sticking out. These bolts are 3/8 thread. What was the purpose of these bolts? It appears to be factory installed as the head of the bolts are visible through the pan.If not needed can it be removed to clean up the bottom of the pan. Thanks in advance. Bill

Re: oil pan info
Some of the starter plates have shelfe built on that goes over those bolts. You want to make sure you use the correct starter plate that goes with the bell housing that bolts to your engine. Walt

Re: oil pan info
Thanks Walt.Do you or someone else know if all the Mercs have the "Shelf" welded on the starter plate? My problem is that I obtained 2 engines 1 ford 1 merc. But the previous owner decided to take them completely apart and put all the pieces in the same box without marking or seperating them. I only have 1 starter plate but it doesn't have a bracket welded on it.Should i add one to the plate that I have now? Thanks for the help Bill

Does your pan have a baffle in it. It looks like a Mercury oil pan to me.

Re: oil pan info
You can run the Mercury pan on the Ford block. All blocks are the "same". Oil pans have the same mounting surface. It's the crank in the Mercury that is different.
