Default Steering box adjustment

There's a nut on the top of the steering box in my 38 held to the box with a star washer. However, the center post through the nut is not grooved. I thought you loosen the nut, screw in the slotted post a little to tighten the sector. If I loosen the nut what do I do next since it's not slotted?

there is a cap nut-remove this and you will see a slotted screw and a star type washer-remove the washer and adjust away!! Before you adjust this make sure the steering worm has no up and down play-try pulling the steering wheel up/down-if there is not play do the sector adjustment
