That's interesting. I've spent many years in the marine industry and I don't think I have ever seen a battery switch on the ground. Of course in most yachts there are multiple battery banks. So it is more practical to have the OFF switch wired this way.

I am pretty sure general aviation is this way also (and light aircraft usually only have one battery).

I wonder if it just really doesn't matter which side is switched? Just different industry practices?

FWIW my Model A came to me with a cutoff switch in the negative cable mounted near the starter. Ugly, but works fine
