Default TECH HELP: '53 3-Speed Overdrive Trans in a '40 Tudor????

Will the later ('53) overdrive 3-speed bolt up to the earlier motor('40)? If so how much modification is need in the mounting department?

If all of that is good, how do those trannys work? Are they manually or electrically actuated?

Thanks!

Kirk, I've been asking question about the T-86 3 speed overdrive transmission on this thread

and have been getting some info from the guys.

Not worth the grief, in my opinion. Send Mitchell a 2Tune and get a decent inline OD...

Huh? Is that code?

Who's Mitchell? What's a 2Tune? And do you mean like a Gear Vendors-style setup?

Mitchell Overdrive in NorCal; Healdsburg? (Google & ask for Sue Mitchell)...
A 2Tune is Brit for 2 Grand.
Mine is the 36%, lever operated style. Brings out my inner Enzo, quite like driving a six speed - think 75 mph in 2nd gear. Always that "just right" gear for cornering & passing, plus I can now actually leave town in the '37...

Not worth the trouble, silly putty gears, 6 volt relays that don't work, oil leaks, hard to make mounts, overdrive needs all kinds of connections mechanical and electrical to work proper, get a T5.

Here's a shot of the shifter, including the homemade cover, cobbled from one of the wife's meatloaf pans...

Easy swap, take out the old torque tube and replace with the Mitchell. 4 hour job, either 26 or 36 % overdrive. Just put one in my 41, running SBC and early running gear, makes for a fun ride.
