You might check the members list for EFV8 club to see if he's listed or if there is a club group near there. Ely is close to Cedar Rapids.

John Wolf drove his 32 3 window coupe on the 2012 National Tour. His car ran very well and he seemed very knowledgeable about the cars. His son may have the business now.

One of our RG members bought a core block from him, but did not have him build it.

The only other info I could find was that they are listed as a salvage yard and used car sales but that's about it. A lot of folks still don't do the internet.

Thanks guys. I've done as thorough a search on the man that I am able to do. I can't find any "feedback" in regard to his engine builds.

He has an engine that I may be interested in. I am apprehensive to buy a "rebuilt" engine without knowing from whom I am buying it.

I had a boss that said that.

Unless I personally know the builder of an engine that I purchase, I always tear it down. The cost of a gasket set easily affords me to sleep well after checking EVERYTHING. Perhaps you could get him to stand by his work by agreeing to take the unassembled engine back after you have checked it out if you are not happy with what you find.

I have known John for years. He is as honest a guy as they come. He ran a machine shop for years but sold the business off except for enough to rebuild 4 cylinders. I believe he has done the last batch of motor rebuilds hes going to do and go into full retirement. I would not hesitate to buy one of his rebuilds.

I doubt John has an email. His business in Ely has been sold, and he now works out of his home shop in Western, Iowa. This is a small town about 5 miles west of Ely.

I have a '39 Merc V8 that he built in my '32 tudor. As stated above, he is an honest guy who does good work. He has built many flathead 8's and 4's, but I think he is only concentrating on 4's now. Google his number and give him a call.
