Default Water pump... Just grease or something else?

The stuff looks like mud. Just curious if it was some kind of special grease or would normal grease suffice. Thank you in advance.

Fan bearing zerk can use chassis grease. Water pump impeller zerk a marine type grease is recommended. Do not over grease. With the pictures shown, I wonder if the cooling system has accumulated grease and plugged up yet.

Thank you. I prepared the cooling system for winter time drained it flushed it with vinegar and put in new coolant. Everything came out as expected no surprises.

I don't know who makes them but it is an aftermarket pump. I have seen them on eBay on occasion.

I think that is a old type of grease looks like that just a little clearer and darker new. 60s axle bearing grease. Interesting design of water pump. Looks like it keeps it self well lubricated. I like the green marine grease for water pumps. wipe that all out of there. Add your waterproof grease of choice.

Dann,

that looks like too much (wrong?) fat. Water pump grease is only dosed in very tiny quantities. About like 1 grain of rice per 100 miles.

I have therefore installed a "Stauffer" socket. It is turned 1/8 turn each time if I refuel.

Jeff,

please have a look; at example: https://www.deboltmachine.com/products/1-4-gas-cap .

I had not found the part with the right US thread. So I sawn off the pot thread and soldered (hard, brass) the pot to a sawn-off American grease nipple.

Remark: Use only special grease for waterpumps.

Special water pump grease is great if it can't/doesn't find its way into the cooling system. It won't melt and can clog radiator passages

Did you have to re-tap the water pump to screw that in, or did you use an adapter?

I thought the special thing about water pump grease is that it WOULD melt if it got into the cooling system? I could be wrong, can't remember where I heard that.

Burner, the small cup is quite small, like a finger hat (= to sew). Turn out the grease nipple, turn in the filled cup. 2 minutes, no matter.

That's right, Ryan.

The low melting point must be such that grease that "churns" through the bearings into the cooling system can not plug into fins or holes. It is water-insoluble, has a high degree of corrosion protection and floats upwards after the engine stops. In the past, the mechanics "fished" this grease out of the cooler hole with a paper towel.

I agrre with J Franklin #10 . water pump grease is great if it doesn't enter the coolant......and thanks for the clarification Werner ..........The pdf guide Data Sheet [https://www.classicoils.co.uk/water-pump-grease ] for Castrol water pumnp grease says "Solubility in water: Insoluble"

Yes, right, it is insoluble of course. This is the only reason why it dissolves from the vortex of the water and rises "at rest" as a fatty layer to the surface.

But of course it penetrates through the sliding bearings into the water! Because with the wave rotation, the hot grease gets very thin and penetrates out. -

Remarks: I could explain that the porridge of Dann is created when different greases come together. Grease are made from oil through a thickener. There are greases who do not fit together. Then the structure of the grease-mix breaks down. It decomposes, some components separate themselves.

But from a picture, this is not sure to recognize.

Yeah, we call those thimbles over on this side.
But you got my brain working and I've got some ideas I'm going to work on, if it works out I'll post back to let you all know how it all turned out.
The pics are just for fun...

They are generally referred to as grease cups. They have been around well over a century and a half and are still available in various sizes. Oiler cups are still around too.
