Keeping mice from above the headliner
Mice got above my recently-upholstered 1931 coupe. They urinated and stained it badly, and some staining even occurred in the side panels. Is there any way to keep them from getting above the lining, since I want to put in a new headliner? I have set traps, used moth balls and mint. Are there any new products to prevent them from entering the car? Thank you.

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
C A T. I, as many here, have done battle with the rodents. If moth balls do not work you are facing some battle hardened mice. Squirrel, chipmonk or something ate the wiring harness in my old Maxima and P/U. I purchased a electronic animal chaser which appears to be working believe it or not. Believe there are some new products out to repel these critters, some humane some not. Or you can build a device (cheap) and put them around the car as follows -- 5 gallon bucket with 2 gallons of water in the bottom. Plastic coke bottle or any round plastic bottle, run a rod through the bottle lengthwise, set on top of the bucket, coat the center of the bottle with peanut butter. Stack some wood to entice the mice to get to the bottle and when they run to the peanut butter the bottle spins and the mouse is no longer a problem - eventually you will prevail through attrition.

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
If one uses rat poison, it has to be changed now & then because rats or mice will not touch old poison -- it has to be fresh.
For traps, one can try any & everything ever heard of, but for some reason, a fresh pecan half, tied to the trap's metal tab with sewing thread will usually be their first choice. |

The rats in 'Nam would shake a trap off their head. Yes they were that big! I used a Model 1911 .45 cal. on them! Worked real good! Here in the States, my black Bombay cat with gold eyes works just as well.

They can squeeze through spaces so small you wouldn't imagine.

Genuine, Rat Terrier Show Dog here, need I say more? Them CATS cain't even hold a light fur a good rodent Dog Might as well post small signs, sayin' "NO MEECE ALLOWED"! Them mice can git thru a hole this l--l small, REALLY!
Friend Ted bought an oooold coupe & scooped a 5 gallon bucket full of "you know what" from it & scrubbed it with bleach & then straight lemon juice, he looked "PUCKERED" fer a week, Naomi made him sleep in he garage! Ol' Bill sayed, "Lemon juice might remove the mouse pee stink & stains." In Kalifornia we got BIG storage tanks of that yellow GOLD, lemonade fit for a KING, IFFIN' you put SUGAR in it! Buster T.

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
I posted this sometime back. I fellow I know put aluminum foil under each wheel of his numerous cars stored in his pole barn. There are a ton of ways for mice to get in a pole barn. He jacked up each wheel and place a long curled up piece of aluminum foil under each wheel (extra wide foil). It looked funny, but he said mice HATE aluminum. He said he has never had a mouse, that he knew of, in his 15 or 20 cars parked in the barn for many years. Most were upholstered. I placed aluminum foil under my overhead door bottom seal last year and so far, no sign of mice in the shop (no poison gone). The fellow said the mice always gain access to to cars, assumming it is not next to a post or some other close object, via the tires. That is why he places foil under the tires where it curves up 4 or 5 inches up from the floor. I wouldn't hurt for you to try it as it is pretty cheap to do.

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
putting out poison//peanut butter and other edible enticements only encourages more meeces to come including there distant relatives. the poison is actually a food, this reminds me of the bag a bug for the japanese beetles. all the neighbors have them out on the lawn and attracting those pesky things to eat their trees bypassing mine. i think your better off using something that does not involve a meal....

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
Tractor Supply here locally has little bags of "Rodent Repellant". Around $15 for 6 or so bags - looks like gravel, smells like a combination of Irish Spring soap and a strong pine tree air freshener. No signs of mice in the couple weeks that I put a couple of the bags out.

Re: Keeping mice from above the headliner
Willie, you mean cats really EAT them NASTY things??? DON'T ever let a CAT LICK YOU! Doghere, even when a Rat Terrier, like me, is FULL of HIGH $$$$ Dog food, we still kill rodents, 'cause that's what we programmed to do. We do the "clean kill" like we crunch their measley neck 'til they're daid & jist "walk away" We never EAT them, they taste like crap! We don't have to be trained to do it. Buster T. (See, that dog's takin' thet rat to his owner so's he gets an "ATTABOY"!)
