Hot hard starting
New problem this year. Car doesn't start when hot. Good spark, amp meter jiggles when turning over. Never had a vapor Lock problem in the past.
Loosened carb filter bolt and had gas. Having gas at the filter bolt, does that mean carb has gas to start. Not even a putt , then all of a sudden it will start. Any suggestions? Bob Giles |

Re: Hot hard starting
Filter bolt? Is that the strainer fuel line in, or out? Or drain valve?

Re: Hot hard starting
It's the bolt that holds the filter screen by the inlet?

Re: Hot hard starting
When starting HOT, hold the throttle to the floor, until it goes RRRRRR!

Re: Hot hard starting
Do you have a good spark when hot? Are you opening the GAV to start?

Re: Hot hard starting
This may not be your case, but we get in the habit of pulling the choke every time we start our A. Once the engine is warm there is no need to turn the GAV a full turn and pull the choke. With mine, when warm, a quarter turn on the GAV and no choke, she fired right up.

Re: Hot hard starting
X3, if that is what is happening. I never use the choke or move the GAV once the engine is warm... starts right up.

Re: Hot hard starting
My car was hard to start when hot... sometimes, until I installed a phenolic spacer to isolate the carb from the hot manifold.
I don't have any starting problems now and seems to run better thru out the RPM range. |

Re: Hot hard starting
To answer your question by loosening the filter bolt it means you have fuel getting to the carb. It does not mean you have fuel going thru the screen or past the float valve to fill the bowl. If you remove the 1/2 wrench size bolt under the carb that will tell you if your bowl has fuel in it..
