Default Steering Wheel Buff/Polish???

I have fixed up my 40 wheel with JB Weld which turned out very nice. I am going to paint the repair areas as minimally as possible and was wondering what one would do to buff or polish back the black spokes and rim where there was no work done? I did go over the whole wheel with some green scotch pad to gently remove some other nicks and such.

Perhaps I misunderstood you, but I would not polish a wheel prior to painting. Use 400 grit to smooth it, prime it and then paint it. Polish mght hinder paint adhesion.

The way I did mine was in several steps, repaired cracks with PC-7 (like JB weld) sand super smooth, primer twice, sand smooth with 0000 steel wool, paint with Urethane epoxy, 2 coats, after paint dries lighty sand that, then 2 coats of epoxy clear. No buffing or polishing needed, shiny and rock hard!
