Default Turn Signal Flasher 12V

This post is a point of information.

After a lot of iterations to discover why the turn signal indicator lamp was rarely working, I narrowed the problem down to the thermal type flasher. I replaced it with a Novita EL13 12v 3-prong unit and the indicator lights work consistently with an audible clinking noise. The EL13 Flasher is semi-transparent, so you can see what's going on inside of it.

The local auto parts store charged $16.28 for one. If you opt for this flasher, make sure its spec indicates it works with a mixture of LED and Incandescent bulbs.

My Victoria has Bratton's main wiring harness with an integral signal system that uses 2 LED tail lights and incandescent bulbs in the cowl lights.

Nice, looks like a good replacement for the 550. Good info.

But, I can't find one similar in 6v. [ 535 ]

My '31 CCPU (+ ground) uses a 6V electronic flasher with built in beeper, works good.

Bob, is this a thermal flasher? I see it is on Amazon.com for $10.54.

Novita has been making e-flashers for several years, but only 12V. Little market for 6V positive ground. Tridon has one of the same number.

Probably wouldn't work with all LEDs

The Electronic Flasher I have is now several years old and is still working fine. Only thing I don't like about it is that it is totally silent -- no clicking at all. (It only comes 12v Neg ground).

That is the exact FL-3 flasher that just burned out after ~5 months, for the second time... one of the reasons I went with a back to a thermal flasher.

I am glad the FL-3 worked out for you. It did work good when it was working, but they don't last for me.

Could be RFI or some other electrical noise in your car's system that is causing the electronics to fail.

I'm sure you're correct but after three electronic flasher in the last year I went back to a thermal flasher with amber incandescent bulbs in front and LEDs in back. No problems... yet.

We are having issues with getting the turn signals to work. Have a two prong. Installed LED rear lights with incandescent headlights. Signals didn’t work before the install of LEDs. Using thermal actuator Novita EL12. Recently bought vehicle and are new to this stuff.

You may find that when you convert to LED taillights, they don't draw enough current to make a thermal flasher work. The simple fix is to add a load resistor to each circuit. Simply t-tap and run to ground. You can get them from Model A vendors or Amazon.

"The very first one listed, does not work. #84787"

Mine works with incandescent on cowl and LED in the rear. I ran a new power wire to the flasher, then to the Signalstat. I will change that by tapping into the power wire that goes to the stop switch and eliminate the extra wire I added.

"Positive ground, works with LED or/and incandescent. six to 24 volts.

https://www.ledlight.com/led-flashers.aspx"

"Flasher LED 6 Volt Positive Ground 3 Terminal for 6 Volt positive chassis. LED flasher for vintage and classic cars and motorcycles. This flasher is LED compatible so you can use led's or incandescent bulbs or a combination of both. The flasher creates real clicking sounds like an old flasher. The flasher duty cycle is from 30% to 70%. The flasher rated load can handle up to 6 bulbs or 120 watts."
