Default Non Ford parts

There is a tread on the Model T section to identify a part. One person said it was a non ford part. This got me thinking about my youth and fooling with Model As. The old guy in our group, maybe 22 at the time, said there were lots of parts made for Model A and T cars that they tried to mark as Ford with slightly off spelling or some other thing to keep Ford off their back and fool the public.
Does anyone know if this is true? If so do you ever run across these parts?

The one that comes to mind is the "BOOL" hubcap. Search on EBAY.

Hub caps were also available with a stylized "F" and another with a two bladed airplane propeller.

Trouble is, with only 4 letters its hard to misspell FORD. Chevrolet is much less noticeable as Chevorolet or ???

I have a period catalog showing those hubcaps, old enough to be classed as just aftermarket replacement parts rather than repro/resto parts. The Company was Badger, a fairly big supplier of minor parts. They made the Bool/Fool Ford caps, Chevy caps with just a long rhomboid rather than a complete bow tie, and a few others. They had lots of other stuff like radiator caps. My take is that they made second rate parts but not absolute garbage...not nearly OEM, not good aftermarket like ECHLIN, but at least usable.

There have been aftermarket components for production cars since the day dot. Sometimes they are inferior quality sometimes they are not. Any car which has been around for as long as Model T and Model A Fords will have had their fair share of choices.
