Default Changing rear end oil.

I posted before about problems removing the original drain plug to drain the oil. I got a number of suggestions on how to get it out. I tried the following: pipe wrench, would not grip, vice grip, would not grip the small portion sticking out, vice grips grabbing the hole and banging with a hammer. I finally ordered 1/2 drive male end pipe plug sockets. One a 3/8 and the other 7/16, the 7/16 fit best. One reply to my post said "people think it is 3/8 but it is not." I put 7/16 on my 1/2 breaker bar and it came right out with no problem. I had been spraying it with Kroil twice a day and banging it with a hammer for about a week. I don't know how much this contributed to the removal. In any case I got it out and the rear end has fresh oil. Thanks for all the suggestions and one take away is the right tool makes all the difference..

If you want to relive the thrill of it all, just ask about the little square-drive countersunk bolts on the anti-chatter rods.

I couldn't budge mine until I finally used my impact driver on it and it very reluctantly came out. I think Jack the Bear had put that thing in there.

Rule 4B: Remove the fill plug first!

I have one of the old rear end plug removal tools, it has eight different sized ends to remove plugs that have the indented hole for a square removal tool, its about 10 inches long and the bar is about 1/2 inch thick, $12 shipping included, sorry no pics I don't know how to load them
