With respect, different part number suffixes mean that they are different parts. Not functionally, but they are not necessarily interchangeable. As an example among hundreds, the front bumper brackets of a '33 passenger car carry the same basic part number, but with markedly different mounting hole locations they are not interchangeable and therefore they are not "basically the same" except for their function. The distinction is important or Ford would not have bothered to make it.
