Default Looking forward to April

This has been a tough winter snow, ice, freezing weather and what next.I hope everyone is ok. This is a bad winter. If my wife was to work outside she would change her mind about moving south.

Cold here too near Houston. Having freezing rain now, schools closed, 20F tomorrow night! Those are orange trees. Shouldn't have too much damage as the lowest temperatures don't last very long. The bark on the trees may crack however and the leaves may defoliate.

Coastal Ga has had quite a few nights of freezing weather. We lost power for a day and a half and I lost about thirty orchids in my little greenhouse. 26 degrees tomorrow night. Sure beats 35 below zero that we had in eastern Maine when I was a kid,

Plus side of freezing temperatures in central Alberta this week. That's short sleeve weather for us! No more than 2 inches of snow on the ground here all winter. Global warming is really messing with what's supposed to be normal.

Same here in NW Ark. Snow on the ground and below zero. Can't remember when it was below zero here before. Been bitter cold! Wind chill 13 below. This global warming is getting tiresome.
It seems the older I get, the colder cold gets.

I guess you fellows are no better off then me. This month half over anyway. We will see what Feb. like. I will be glad when we ALL are through this mess. I wonder what Buffalo, N.Y. like. They are use to this. I always though that was the worst place in the winter. Now I think its not to good here also. No ones sled rides any more around here these days. We use to love to sled ride when I was a boy. No one today puts chains on any more also. I guess only in the mountains. Just big trucks half to. Front wheel drive, all wheel drive and 4 wheel drive solve that problem today. When I was a young boy down at Dads garage he sell alcohol to put in radiators to keep from freezing up but would boil out and you had to add more. It was cheaper then antifreeze back then. Some people use to drain there radiator every night. Some use kerosene in the radiator. I guess that worked? They also had there problems also back then.

Cold and snowy here also, I just hope we don't get 4 inches of snow like we did in May a few years ago, I'd like winter to be gone by mid-March. If I only had a heated garage to work on my car its in an unheated storage unit now.

Supposedly, Mark Twain once asserted “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”....This is a profound statement!....

Colder than normal even in Sask. Although its supposed to jump above normal tomorrow. Not enough snow to be a problem. In fact we had more snow in November than we have now. -2F in my shop this morning so I fired up the furnace and worked on the 53 for a while. Indoor temp was up to +10F pretty soon and felt comfortable for working. I'm waiting for a nice scenic day with hoarfrost and blue sky to take the 52 out for a few pictures. Like this one from a couple of years ago.

Seriously? You guys don't get hoar frost there? It makes for the most awesome winter scenery. Tree branches and everything get coated in a thick white layer of frost that makes a great backdrop for photographing old rusty cars. Pics are usually best early in the day before any melting or wind blows it away. I was a bit late in the day for this one but you can see a little on the trees.

Daddy used alcohol in the winter and drained what was left and stored it in the summer time.
We are expecting a dusting here tonight and one more day of real cold tomorrow. Smokey hasn't been started in over a month as I have blankets over the garage door to help keep my 3 real cars warm.

Since I had the furnace running and the shop "warmed up" I did a little more rust assessment on the 53. Got the seat and front floor mats out and its pretty bad but no worse than the 52 was. I can patch it up good enough to drive if I ever get the engine to running condition.

Hardly any snow around here. Snow all around us, but mountains keep blocking us from it. 40 degrees last couple of days. Every time it snows here so far this season we have been getting warm weather behind it up from the south Pacific & rain. I probably have 4" in my yard. We have had about 3' so far but you couldn't tell it. We are about 2' behind average for this year. Chest deep up at my cabin though. Bill

I’ve never heard it called that. We’ve had mornings when the sun started to get high that it sounds like it’s raining as it starts to melt. I don’t ever remember it being called “ hoarfrost”. We just called it....well.....Frost!....it does make for pretty pictures......Mark

Winters is always better than what I remember as a kid! I remember when a neighbor had a '35 chev and he said he really liked the lighted heater switch under the dash because when he saw that light burning, he knew the heat was on and it made him feel so much warmer.

Meanwhile us kiwis swelter in the heat and drought. 90F. In the shade and 127F. In the sun.
Try spending a day or two in a iron unlined shed welding a chassis up.

Wow Ralph that floor is worse the the shoebox Ford I use to own back in 1964, I remember cutting a piece of plywood to put under my rubber mat, I sealed it up with some kind of tar my Dad had, also got some rockers from Montgomery Wards to go over the originals, held on by sheet metal screws, those were the days.

That sounds like a first class repair. My older brother bought a nice lookin' '54 Ford from a used car lot on Lake Street in Minneapolis (anybody from Minnesota can relate to that). They had fixed the rocker panels by jamming a bunch of steel wool into the rust holes and skimming it with bondo. That car went from looking terrific to being a rustbucket in less than two weeks!

Looking good Mark. Are the panels from EMS? That is the first name that came to mind as I have watched several of their videos. I guess I won't post pics of the crude hacked up job I did on my floors on the 53 today. Although I did video some of it just for my own satisfaction and future reference. It will be strong and look just fine once the mats are back in place.
Oh, what the heck, here is one. The glare of the trouble light might cover up some of the crudity.
