Gas tank capacity

Was the 30-31 gas tank designed to take 10 or 11 gallons of gas?

I believe the capacity for the 28-29 tanks is 10 gallons, but what about the 30-31 tanks?

All I know is my tank holds anywhere between $18 and $25...depending on the day.
When you think about, back in the day you could fill up these cars for under $2

Lowest I can remember was 18 cents per.
Liked it when it settled out at 25 cents for the longest time.

I remember that the price per gallon went down to 25 cents per gallon in 1972 .

The 30-31 tanks hold 11 gallons I really think that the 28-29 tanks hold a little less but I can't check it out right now to be sure . I'll bet that Bob C will know and probably have documentation

10 gallons for '28-'29 tanks.
11 gallons for the '30-'31 tanks.
However, it can get tricky on the '29-'30 commercial vehicles, with their unique 'carry over' situation.

I agree . The early 1930 model trucks and wagons up through june 1930 used the 28-29 style cabs . The gas caps were one of the give aways . The early 30 mnodels used the tab style caps instead of the threaded style caps .

Same here. In 1971 we had a gas war for just a few days, and gas dropped to 18 cents, then returned to 29 cents, but in just a couple years it went nuts.

Those capacities were US gallons, I guess. Are they used anywhere else in the world? By the time you allow for the fact that a "proper" gallon was the imperial gallon and even when that was in use, it was far more wide spread than the US gallon and the fact that pretty near all of the rest of the world is now metric, it appears to me that you guys might be the only people using the old system. Just wondering.
BTW, 10 US gallons is 37.85 litres. I have put 42 litres in my '29 in one fill. Go figure! Maybe I was close to walking!

Maybe you should have put in a call to the National Measurement Institute. I reckon the servo might have ripped you off to the tune of 10%!

It's interesting that the gas price in the 1930s in 2015 dollars was about the same as the gas price in 2015.

We remember 25 cent gas. Like Bill says, we tend to forget how much we earned .

I seem to remember putting more than 10 gallons into my '29 Phaeton a couple times.

Once was when I rolled up to the gas pump after running out. (They say timing is everything in life!) The gas station was slightly down hill from where I ran out ...I coasted the last half block and had a clear path to the pump island.

With the drained tank including the carb and gas line...I think the pump registered 10.6 gallons...so I know Synchro909 is right on his claim of over 10 gallons in a previous post.

So true, in 1968 I was getting $1.85, and that was a union job, bottom of the scale, but that was the rate.
