1929 Tudor header cap
hey guys - I just posted a question about this and now I see the wrong date in the title. Sorry, just old stiff scarred fingers.
The problem is the cap doesn't extend all the way back to the steel header on the under side. Was this gap covered originally or left exposed and painted body color? Thanks again for your advice Phil |

Re: 1929 Tudor header cap
Hi Phil, I too have just fitted my top wood kit during my restoration. I read your original post and 3/4" sounds like a lot! My metal header cap had been repaired many years ago by inserting a piece of steel in behind it so it wouldn't sit snug over the wood header. I removed that repair. I'm no expert (my first Model A) but these wood headers often need a lot of 'tweaking' to achieve the best fit. Mine is less than 1/8 gap in that area now. The curved ends of the cap should sit flush against the steel header and a 3/4 gap probably wouldn't allow that I think? Good luck.

After thinking about the problem, I found the wooden header about 3/8 inch too long. Your note kept me from making the same mistake you found with the metal lip to bridge the gap. Thanks again for the reply. Phil |
