I have a 8BA (unknown year). How do the spark plug wired connect? In a tube or no tube??? Thanks

Re: Spark plug tubes
originally there was no tube. The four on the passenger side just ran straight back from the distributor. The driver side crossed between the carburetor and the generator through a bracket with a loop in it. There are aftermarket looms/tubes that can be used, though.

Re: Spark plug tubes
Every 8BA I've seen has a bracket on each side with 4 holes in them that the driver's side wires go through. They bolt under a manifold bolt and appear to be coated with something like rubber. When I did my last engine, I stripped and blasted them, painted them, and then dipped the end with the holes in that stuff you can buy to dip tool handles in. I thought they turned out pretty well. IIRC, the bracket with the loop is for the regular low tension engine wires.

Re: Spark plug tubes
Plug wire brackets for '49-'50 were round loops with a rubber insulator. Four hole brackets were used starting in '51 but since they're a little neater many were used to replace loop type on earlier cars. I believe center hole in '51 type was used to run coil wire. As with many changes part replacements could have been introduced late in previous year.

Re: Spark plug tubes
Thanks for the correction, Howard; I must have all late model engines, though I did pull one out of a '50. I don't think the hole in the middle is for the coil wire though, given the position of the coil.

Re: Spark plug tubes
If I understand what you're saying I don't think a set of stockers would be that hard to find. Plus, restoring them with the :Tool Dip" is kinda fun!
