Default Any tips on 39 hood clips?

I am attempting to install the stainless trim on my freshly painted 39 Deluxe hood and I can’t seem to get the new clips to snap in the hood without risk of damage. Is there a trick to this that anyone can share?

Oh yeah... be certain the two points on the clips are next to each other. In other words, not crossed.
Also, once you start them in the hole, do your best to pull them from the opposite side with a small plier.
A little grease on each clip helps too.
As the paint is new, be certain you take a small file to each hole and remove any built up layers of paint.

Thoes clips are death on new paint. Thats why I built sheet metal pieces with a 10-32 stud welded in the center to hold on my stainless trim. Time consuming and not "correct" I know, but you don't end up with a bunch of chipped, rust prone trim holes in your freshly painted parts. I did this for the doors and 1/4 trim also. Yeah, I have a lot of time on my hands.
