Default tips on installing 39 hood trim?

Having trouble attaching stainless trim to my freshly painted 39 deluxe hood. I have new clips but they appear to be too stiff to push/force into the mounting holes without risk of damage. any tricks/advice on this?
thanks,
bd

I have noticed that the Drake clips are of a gauge wire that is too big and stiff. If you can't find usable originals, you may have to slightly enlarge the holes to get them on without making dents in the trim. A little grease on them may help but on my 40, I had to use a needle file to egg a few of the holes a little. If your primer and paint have closed the holes up a little that may be adding to the problem.

I used Drake trim and made these clips to hold it. Allows precise adjustment.
Here is how my std hood trim fits, and a picture of the attaching clips I made. Hope this helps and good luck.

I ran a drill bit by hand through all my painted holes and placed painters tape on each side of the holes. Kinda tough getting the tape off after the moulding is installed but is worth it.
