Default 48 coupe- brakes and backing plate question

Today I removed the shoes from the left rear wheel. The shoes have the round holes and the retainer plate at the bottom comes off by removing the nuts on the back of the backing plate. I know the '48s didn't have this feature, and that the pins on the '48s are fixed in the backing plate.

The green bible indicates the type brakes I have are from like '39 to '45 or so.

I assume someone swapped the rear end at some point in the past.

So, here's a question: Can I put '48 backing plates on a '40 rear axle so as to be able to use the correct brake shoes? I know I'll have to get the correct retainer plates, but will I have problems otherwise?

Thanks

Hi,yes to all that. It's all direct bolt on/interchange,but you will need the inserts that fit in the bottom of the shoes as they are different to the earlier style, Col.
