34 transmission
Assembling a 34 transmission from scratch an need to know the correct direction of the synchronizer. There is a small flat on one side and none on the other. Does the flat face toward engine or to the rear. See picture. TIA

Re: 34 transmission
The lip should go towards the front of the tranny. The way you have it looks correct.

Re: 34 transmission
Here are two pictures of '36 transmissions that I have (same/similar hub as '34) that have not been taken apart. Extended part on hub is going to the front on these, same as you show in your picture.

Re: 34 transmission
It don't look to me in any of those pic that those gears are 34. They look to me like 39 up gears. I have been known to be wrong. Ask my wife. Walt

Re: 34 transmission
Walt...you're right and you're wrong. MAG's original pic shows the straight slider splines of a 32-35 mainshaft. JM 35's example pics are the '36-39 variety, but he was just using them to show an example of the '32-38 style synchro. As my brother once said to me.....just nod yer head in agreement when your wife says she's right.....life will always be good.....

Just a quick thought here....ignore if you are reusing the orig parts....if however you are replacing some components be aware that there are two different early style syncro sleeves , clusters and input shafts. The difference is in the width of the sleeve and gears . Email me if this is your situation, or get Mac Van Pelts book. Charlie ny [email protected] |

Re: 34 transmission
Walt.....you've probably forgotten more than I'll ever know about flathead V8's, so don't feel bad. I just happen to go to sleep each night with visions of transmission gears dancing in my head.....
