Timely Parts delivery
Anyone else having an issue with getting parts quickly?
Used to order my parts and three maybe four days later they would show up, Now it seems to take at least a week. One vendor did send me a large order in three days back in early March. but all the rest of my orders are taking up to nine days to show up. I know it's not the suppliers or workers, it's because the suppliers/workers are prevented from working. Looking forward to getting America back to work. Not really complaining, just an observation

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I've been waiting on a windshield glass for almost 3 weeks. Other than that I've been getting things like normal.

Timely Parts delivery
I’ve ordered several things online over the last several weeks, and I’ve had timely deliveries. I don’t know if other locations are experiencing delays or not.

I couldn't agree more. In this virus should have shown us anything, it is how important nurses, paramedics, firefighters and police are and how unimportant famous actors, singers and sports people are.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
Some parts from Snyders usually 2-3 days, over a week. Package to a friend in LA, usuaally overnight, to 2, over a week. The times I guess.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
With most vendors not having their stores open for walk-ins and trying to remain safe, they may be at minimum crew also. Please everyone, be patient and we will get thru this.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I buy local and a crown wheel and pinion I ordered last week was here the next day. Parts from the US took 10-12 days. That's to be expected but anything heavy, I got sent by surface freight. That took 5 months - probably about the same time as when they used sailing ships.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
Freight gouging is real, vendors inflate shipping costs to pad their bottom line.End users pay and transfer the cost to you,the consumer.Cheap as airfare is I could have flown round trip and bought a ticket for the caliper and done better.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I've had excellent service from Moon and Speedway. More and more companies are using the UPS/USPS combination for small items at very reasonable prices. Having been in the mail order business, I cringe every time I read a post accusing shops of padding the price of freight and handling. Not enough info on the brake caliper to really determine if the price was out of line.

Ordered from the V8 Foundation package went to USPS in Iowa to Dallas Back to Iowa Back to Dallas no wonder they are broke. Takes 5 days or longer to cover 180 mile trip to get a package from Dallas to here. That was before all this mess hit

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I'm not going to target a vendor, but items from the big stores (Mac's/Snyder's) still come fairly quickly, but I like using the small independent guy's like Mike's, Bratton's, Bert's and some of the other's as much as possible, some time it is more money to use the small independent guy's but if it's American made then I am sold, so tired of the Chinese garbage that I don't mind paying for quality American parts, I'm about 90%/10% towards the small guy's vs the big boys when ordering.
With the small guy's I can understand a delay with them, having a reduced workforce and all. Just something I noticed And support the homegrown small vendor's like Mike's, Bratton's, Bert's and the other's, or we will be stuck with with only two choices (you know who they are) and their cheap foreign made parts.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I have never considered Snyder's being a BIG store but besides that I have received some pretty crappy parts from all of the vendors you mentioned, some of the parts Made in USA.
Vintique comes to mind.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
I suspect that would go in an $8 priority mail box. Somebody had to create the paperwork for the USPS and then there’s the packing material plus labor. $12 sounds about right.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
One thing to keep in mind is that shops like mine, that supply some parts, are having a hard time getting our supplies. I have a machine that is down and getting response from the manufacturer is difficult and SLOW. I have 2 other machines I am setting up and this virus stuff has that process at a stop. Technicians will not be sent right now. The last month has been inconvenient, yet the orders still keep coming in as though everything is business as usual. And that is from all aspects of my business.

Re: Timely Parts delivery
Mail in Australia is also suffering from huge delays, due to the massive increase in the use of parcel post as a result of COVID-19. Australia Post is about to employ an extra 600 staff and set up 6 new sorting/distribution centres. I'm not complaining. Who knew this was coming?

Re: Timely Parts delivery
The problem here is the mail. I mail roughly 100 boxes every morning, almost all via uSPS priority mail. In the past ( pre Covid), almost all delivered in 2-3 days. The last month, it has been 2-15 days, and most in the 10-15 days. Every Saturday morning I check online to see how many delivered for the week. It shows if they are in transit or delivered. I checked last Saturday and only 45 of 390 had been delivered at that point Saturday morning at 6am. Of course many were delivered that Saturday and the following Monday. The problem is most USPS priority mail packages are flown in commercial airlines, since so few flights are flying they have no room for them . So, don’t blame the vendor- Blame the post office. UPS is about normal as they move their own stuff on there own trucks. We provide tracking numbers on every order and you can track all of these packages online everyday if you want.

And I'm glad, at least for the time being, I can still afford to support our suppliers. Don't know how much longer that is going to be tho.
