Shipping
Ordered a set of head studs and nuts - checked two of the top vendors - one vendor listed $17.59 shipping and another listed $14.95, but only charged $10.50. It pays to check them out! I normally buy from the first vendor, but they screwed themselves on shipping with this order.

Re: Shipping
We would have charged $7.50 shipping as that would fit in a Small box flat rate USPS....

Re: Shipping
That seems a bit sensitive to me. You would freak if you knew what we have to pay in freight! Prices START at $44.

Re: Shipping
USPS Priority Flat Rate shipping is extremely affordable. If one goes on USPS.COM, one can get shipping boxes sent to you for FREE. They have many more Flat Rate sizes online than are available at the Post Office.
Small: $7.80 Medium: $14.35 Large: $19.95 And remember! As long as it fits, it can weigh up to 70 pounds! Good way to send bricks of steel or lead, huh? |

Re: Shipping
I try to buy what I can from Canadian vendors but when I have to buy from Bratton's or Snyders even a small box with a few light parts can run $25- $30+ to get up here. Shipping is sometimes more than the cost of the order itself.

Re: Shipping
That's the norm here. What ever I pay $100.00 CDN. then I fiqure it will be $200.00 U.S and maybe another $50.00 if UPS is the handler.
Explain that to a customer!! JP |

Rockauto ships cheap Fedex, tax free, in three days.
Ebay shipping can be OK. International flat rate box, with as much in it as possible. |

Re: Shipping
Rock auto shipping is fair BUT often times the parts come from different warehouses in their system, then your shipping is multiplied because you get charged for each location, often eliminating any saving on their parts. Been dealing with them for years, I especially like their close out deals. I restore Mazda RX7s and purchased a boatload of parts for about a dime on a dollar last month.

Re: Shipping
I also agree with rock auto shipping costs.as to the different warehouses they note that on the item when added.you can also at times choose another of the same item that MAY come from the same warehouse if not you choose to order or not.

Yup, Bert's has the best shipping prices I've seen from any of the vendors. For a while I figured they'd be more expensive since I live on the east coast and they are in CO. Well that just wasn't the case, plus I've gotten everything in 2 days. 3 orders in the past 3 weeks and shipping was around $30 in total. |

Maybe you become their Australian agent. Brattons haven't shipped here for a couple of years but someone saw the opportumity and became their local agent.

Yup, Bert's is the place to buy the part's from as you also can buy original and new part's there also so that's where I get my stuff from, unless I'm looking for something that they don't have then it's on the barn is where I put the ad's.

Service and Quality come first. Price is always second in my book. Poor service and poor quality always cost more in the end, no matter how much I saved on postage/freight.

Re: Shipping
I have read complaints about shipping on other forums, I dont think there is any way around it. In todays climate of buying almost everything online shipping is only going to get worse. I am not a reseller but having come into quite a few spare parts with my last build I have found myself selling. To date most of the shipping goes through usps in a flat rate box which is pretty reasonable. I have a $70 part going to Australia and the shipping is about $40. Honestly didn't think it was that bad, then again its the cheapest rate and will take 3-4 weeks delivery. Price double for faster delivery.

Re: Shipping
77 Birdman,
You know you are kind of correct on that as everything goes up in this economy there is no way out of it, as everyone is trying to make a buck more than the next guy so it does matter to shop around. Plus if you are a retailer with say Millions of dollars in stock and you have allot of overhead, you have to keep up with the times and no I'm not a retailer now but I was years ago so I know how to do it. Re: Shipping
I am a retailer and we try to ship online with flat rates to keep pricing reasonable. Some we win and some we lose that way though, but it mostly balances out. What killed reasonable shipping rates was Amazon, where they would grab a huge box for a pair of shoes and then fill it with air pillows to take up the space. UPS and FedEx caught on and switched to dimensional rates, which drove all pricing way up. USPS is your best option if you can get a supplier to use them instead. They also use dim rates, but only on larger cartons.

yes, living in Australia provides carriers a good harvest. I'm looking everywhere to purchase a Gatsby type striped blazer. Yes found one in USA and freight was 90 USD. Life is great in Australia but isolation costs.

Now there I think you hit the nail right on the head on that one?, as amazon are the ones that started it and it's just going to get worse over time. as I think we're going to see more shipping wars one of these days just like when the Post Office was going to close its doors. As they had to close down allot of offices just to stay in business, and I think it's all over the big box stores doing it and the online shopping that we all do now a days. As everyone I know went out for the black friday shopping now they just do it on their computers. Reggiedog |

Rockauto was good while it lasted. I needed a heater blower motor for my Mitsubishi a few days ago. Mitsubishi quoted $1134 for an 18 years old car. Mitsubishi here is one of the highest tax paying companies. Now Rockauto had one for US$20 and US$15 Fedex shipping. From past experience if they send the wrong part, they ship it back and ship a replacement in about 3 days. Now you just get a message about not being able to process our local tax. |

Re: Shipping
yes reggie,
Ive cut my purchases on ebay way back. I now look at an item and most of the time go- dont need that and there you have it! the cheat is to get an address in DE, which is 45 minutes from me. then you are back to no sales tax and Im sure many co's do just that. not worth it for the small guy. |

Re: Shipping
You got that right? as that is what they do on ebay only though what you buy on here I don't think is that way at all, as most of the barn people won't cheat you as there all barn people themselves.

Re: Shipping
agreed Reggie- I now try to buy elsewhere off of the bay.
I was spending about 1500 a month and am now down to around 200 a month. that has to hurt ebay quite a bit, at least from people like myself. who knows, maybe others dont care..........? |

Re: Shipping
Shipping is expensive, yes. But on the other hand I can hand off a box to my local mail carrier and he will hand deliver it to an address 1500 miles away in 3 days, all for less than 8 bucks. I call that a bargain!

OK, this is why I never use Macs. I just gave them 1 more try and they failed again terribly.
I ordered the same parts with both companies. The exact same order for parts with Snyders was $12.00 cheaper. SHIPPING Macs charged $34.09 for 3-7 days. Snyders charged $13.50 for 2 days. |

Re: Shipping
Have you ever tried Bert's?, as there cheap also and they have either new and original part's now you can't beat that in my book. Plus there very knowledgeable as to any part you want and they know how to fix the stuff also.
And they will tell you right over the phone as they have helped me out allot of times, and they also know how many of a certain part was ever made plus if you want a original part of that part they can sell you one of them also. Try them you will like them, as I did and I have never been steered wrong from them on any part that you buy from them. But if you don't like the part or the part is wrong they will take it back no questions asked. Reggiedog |

Re: Shipping
The best way to save money on shipping costs, is to order more parts at one time. Every morning we go into the store and their is 50-75 new internet orders ordered overnight. 80% of them are for 1-2 parts. Of those 1-2 parts orders, 60% of those same guys order 1-2 parts later in the week. Often some of the same guys order a third small order in the same week. If they looked a little further into their project, and ordered all 6 parts at once, they could cut their shipping costs by 2/3 .
Just a thought.... Steve @ Bert’s. |

Re: Shipping
Not A related, but I wanted a spray bomb of engine enamel for my 57 Pontiac. It is an odd ball green that was not used very many years 55-57 Pontiac & some 40's Buicks also. Not that many people sell it. The first place wanted 20 bucks for a can, so I figured ok I'll bite the bullet until I hit the shipping tab....They wanted $20.50 to ship 1 spray can! I moved on & found another who was 5 bucks cheaper on the spray can & $6.95 for shipping!
