Default What, no B-J Auction 2015 comments?

Good entertainment on these cold January nites in Illinois. You have to overlook the prices 'paid' and just have fun watching the car show.

Hobby is strong and very much alive. Mostly 70-ish age guys playing, I guess they are the age bracket w/ the big coin to spend.

Ron Pratt looks to be bowing out of the hobby, THAT may be scary he is a brilliant business man

I think Ron is probably bowing out of the hobby due to current petroliana prices. Unreal what $1000 signs and globes are selling for in this auction.

The overall price of the cars are down. Ron did not profit from his vehicles sold this week. One car he lost $500,000 plus the fees he paid when he bought it. Ron bought at high market times.
Alice Coopers small collection of muscle cars that he sold on Friday night, he lost his A$$. Again he bought them at high market times. He did not look pleased.
I personally think not having a "fresh" docket of vehiles to offer might have hurt a bit at B-J. We have seen the majority of these same vehicles cross the block in the last 4/5 years now.
The other auctions in Scottsdale this week, Bohnams, Gooding, RM and Russo and Steele had the usual strong numbers on the rare docket of vehicles offered.

Nice to see Model As getting some respect. The 30 woody went for 33K night before last. That 30 Murray Fordor that went for 15K was bargain.

I tried google and other searches and still do not have an answer for- What is with all the people just standing on the stage?? Seems like car owners delivering cars to the block get out and disappear, but there is a huge cluster of people just standing on the stage and constantly getting in the way. What's the deal???!

P.S.---- I've wondered the same thing. If I was bidding on a car, and most here would agree, you would have spent a lot of time out in the tent area even the staging lanes crawling all over and under it inspecting it. The time to do that is NOT when the car hits the auction block, too late. I guess maybe those are just folks who want to be seen on TV but you would think the auction people would try to move them on

I did enjoy seeing the Packards, Cadillacs, and such from the 20's early 30's they are always a nice break from the endless Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes,,, and we own an early Mustang! (As they say, common as belly buttons.) I missed the petroliana stuff always like to see what that brings.

spdway1 pointed out, dollar amounts still down from the peak years. Was Alice Cooper's eye liner running? He had a few catchy songs back in the day!

I agree! With the web stream running in the shop, any time I heard a year older than 1932 announced, I would go watch the screen. Other than that, yawn...

Some of these "resto mods" with no mileage on them tell us that people are mimicking what they see on TV where you buy some old car cheap, spend a week slapping paint on it, drop a motor in it, then try to sell it at auction for big profit. Again- yawn...

I'm new to Model A's but have been around Studebakers over 40 years....and I know this... you should love them and never plan on making money because for the most part you won't.

The people standing on the stage are TV hoars, "Hey Look at ME" They do ask to clear the stage from time to time if your not bidding.

Remember Tony Orlando and Dawn, their hit song in about 1973 'He Don't Love You Like I Love You??" The line where he says 'When the final act is over, I'll be there to take you home'?

THAT'S what us car guys will do after the big money guys have there day in the sun with the old cars

Probably not that depressing if you did see the car and know the condition it is in. After inspecting it at the auction I would not have paid that kind of money for it.

Hey, Joop! Nice to see you around again.

Did you see that 400A that was butchered into a hot rod over there?

Is any of this an omen of things to come? Prices down......losing money having bought to high!
I still see the vettes/cobras/cameros still doing Ok.

The crowd for these cars at high or low prices is thinning daily......we need the next generation to keep it going but I'm not seeing that.

2935Ford, I guess to protect yourself, $$ wise, is try not to get too deep into a project look for a car already done that needs little if any work. And then overall, just have fun with the cars and don't worry about the money you lose. Kind of like laying out 50 grand today for an upscale pickup truck or whatever that will be worth maybe ten in a few years We all hate depreciation but seem not to mind if that NEW vehicle eats a hole in our budgets!

Cars just don't seem to be much of an 'investment' all told
