Is there supposed to be something on the bottom of the channel between the metal and the rubber that pushes the vinyl/canvas top? When I was removing the crazy old baked in stuff, it seemed like the was a layer of stuff under there.

There may have been some material installed in the channel to account for irregular surface, but not a sealer as such from the Ford factory. Don Rogers has provided a detail of the seal strip installation. My own experience indicates that there are several reproduction seals out there, but only the Bob Drake design is the proper size and flexibility. If you do get another manufacturer, you will be ahead of the game if you do a trial of the top material and the seal before installing a new roof.

Someone earlier may have put some sealer in there due to a leak.

Did you video the removal of that 80 yr old crap, I have to do mine and wondered if you found a good technique to get that old stuff out??

I didn’t video, but I took the pics you see at the top of the thread. I think I pretty ,UCB went at it with my biggest flap blade screw driver and maybe my gasket scraper. It was slow going for sure as all my stuff baked in desert sun for who knows how long. I’ll take a quick look for any other photos.

Yeah, other picture were similar and just as useless. I may have had the heat gun out too? There seemed to be a few layers.
Needle nose pliers for pulling on pieces that don’t want to come out.
Definitely have your shop vac out or that stuff goes everywhere.

THANKS, but I hit it today, took about 3-4 hrs, used a long flat blade screwdriver, a long Phillips screw driver a mallet to drive the Phillips under and pry out, slow going but I've been putting this off for over 3 years! Excited to be finished and to not have any real hidden rust holes! Will vacuum the channel out and hit with some Ospho.
