Default 33/34 Front and rear Spring dimensions ??

Hi all,

The springs on my 33 Phaeton (B engine) have settled and the car look like it has been lowered even though no one has lowered it on purpose.

Are new spring sets available to replace stock springs ?

I have seen many new springs available but all lowered sprigs.

I want to put my car back to stock height.

Does anyone know the correct stock distance between the spring shackle eyes when taken off the car and when fitted to the car and the car is at its normal ride height ?

Yes new ones are available at most vendors, Midwest early ford is where I bought mine. But Mac's & many more carry them.

My 33 V8 2 door sedan has 15 1/2 inches from the center of the hubcap to the lip of the fender straight above it, and 18 1/8 at the rear. It seems to sit at a "normal' height, but I don't know exactly how high they are supposed to be.

Thanks guys for the input.

Since my fenders have been shaped wrong by previous restorer and my wheels are 16" 1935 wheels, can someone please give the correct measurement between the road and some point on the chassis please ?

That would help me to check the state of my springs.

OK, my 33 is 14 1/4 from the road to the bottom of the front spring right next to the center clamping plate, and 17 1/8 at the rear.
Measuring this way isn't as good as from the center of the wheel though, because this measurment changes with the diameter of the tire, while the dimension from the center of the wheels to the fender will only take into account the spring height.

thanks a lot Jim !! would not have easy for you to measure those from under the car... much appreciated !!!

Oh yes I do see what you mean.. i do need to have the correct wheel and tire size to compare measurements with yours.

However, even measuring from the center of the wheel to the fender lip will not work for me as my fenders are all completely wrong.

If you find your self under your car again, please take a measurement between the shackle bolts, on the spring side for both springs.... this should be the same on our cars irrespective of fenders and wheel and tire sizes.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to do this for me !!

The measurement from center to center of the shackle bolts on the spring side is 32 1/8 on the front and 45 1/2 on the rear. The front eyes of the springs are only about 1/4 inch above the axle, which seems pretty low. Maybe my car is sagging in the front too. I had replaced the front spring many years ago.

Thank you all !

Jim has very kindly given me the measurements so I can now check how bad my springs are.
I will also look into if one of the blades may be broken.

CeeJay, it might be possible to re-arch the springs to the original shape. The car does look very low at the front.
