Responding to “wanted ads”
I posted my displeasure maybe a year back stating I was going to quit responding due to the inherent rudeness of no response. Well, I guess I forgot!
I responded to several (maybe 5) this month. These were not high dollar parts and trying to be more of an assist than trying to get paid! 2 out of 5 were no response ( I said one could have the part for $5 plus cost of mail in padded envelope), no response. However another responded that he was going to keep looking as what I had was fine point quality and he didn’t need that; thank you! Both of the non-responders took their ad to the top well after I responded. Hopefully I will remind myself! |

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
It's just sales, don't take it personally. Throw a lot out there, see what sticks.
People ask me about striping their car, colors, etc. and I never give it a second thought until they call for an appointment. "Guy must be serious !!" |

“It's just sales, don't take it personally”
For sure, but I don’t really care if I sell one thing or not. I’m not a “flea guy”. I make a line of parts for special body styles. With that in mind I think I’ll just let them make the first move in finding me; a “wanted ad” is no longer considered the first move. I truly stay pretty busy and shouldn’t even bother with “wanted”. I guess it’s a curiosity and cat thing! The reason I posted the dissatisfaction is maybe it will improve the ones wanting! Ha ha |

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
IMO, failure to respond is yet another manifestation of how we are now not being taught courtesy.
My daughter has done a fantastic job teaching her son how to be courteous and people notice and are impressed. I'm starting to think that it is reaching the stage where someone who is courteous will do very well in life, even if they are not going to shake academia. (My grandson is not a dill)

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
I have gotten no responses from the older generation too. They, too, will ask questions and never get back to the seller, or as a buyer do not reply. And yes I did a little digging and found they were not spring chickens, had been on the roost for a while. It has nothing to do with an age group.

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
Have had mixed results, most overwhelmingly positive from members here. Some went very far out of their way to help facilitate transaction. It really helps to note how long they have participated here and number of posts. I always mention either by msg or talking my handle on IG and the Hamb, helps them understand who they are dealing with.

One of them had over 1,000 posts! I’ll just let it go and fade into the sunset on answering wanteds. That’s what I said awhile back….now I mean it! |

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
Wow, you would think that should be enough! Craigslist is really bad, but I have found the worst to be Facebook market place. Just seem to get burned there more than not, but I have sold a lot of stuff on both, as well. My daughter tells me to just relax, like I have ever done that before!

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
Yeah one think that makes me turn into the Incredible Hulk is when some one tells me to “chill”! Hard to chill when gasoline is thrown on your fire!
Wife no longer does that for sure. Others get a brief “explanation”. Maybe I’m just a grouchy old man! Point in life one could care less. I’ve never sold anything except FB and eBay (which I’ve gone dormant with). Local horror stories on Craigslist. |

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
I, too, have gone "dormant" selling on eBay. Most everything I have to sell is too common or large and not rare enough to warrant the cost of shipping for the buyers. Buying, now that is a different story. Most of the items I buy are not found at swap meets, yard sales or even in the classifieds here or on other car related sites. One thing I have found in life, when you sell X item you end up getting a small amount when it does sell, but if I have to buy that same item, it cost 4Xs as much! LOL

Re: Responding to “wanted ads”
My sales have been few and far between no shipping pick up here or no sale . All sales are final after inspection and money changes hand . Same when I buy parts I take a drive and see before buying . I have bought small parts shipped off this site with great results . And I use Craigslist I take a ride with backup and caution . Swap meet fails to answer my questions a lot lol .
