Re: home built trunk.
Are you building a wooden trunk or metal trunk? How good are your fabrication skills in each of these materials?
There have been some masterful replica trunks made through the years both copies of the Ford accessory trunk (not made by Ford) as well as others such as the Kari-Keen. Many, many, many hours of labor involved, satisfaction…priceless. |

Re: home built trunk.
Mine is fabric covered ply with a light pine frame in side. I threw it together easily in a day (the day before a longish rally when I would need it)

Re: home built trunk.
im going to build it from plywood. long enough to get those pesky fold up camp chairs into.
i was thinking of covering it with light canvas and painting the canvas, then using wetted thick veg tanned leather for the edges and corners. i want it to open up sort of like the Kari-Keen, the whole back hinged backward. but we will see how it progresses. ou |

Re: home built trunk.
I built my own for around $100-$125. It is made of plywood with pine framing and covered in tan colored vinyl. It is my own design. If I can get some pics and post them I will. If not you can email me at [email protected] which might be faster.

Re: home built trunk.
I built my own trunk out of wood. The woods I used were maple, oak and walnut trim. It has a rounded top. EMAIL me at [email protected] and I can send you pictures.

Re: home built trunk.
old ugly - I think your trunk is looking really nice! I did however measure my trunk rack which I don't see in your picture. Mine is 34 1/2" wide!

ya 34 would have looked better proportioned, i made long so my chairs fit it. i am mounting it rite to the frame extensions, not going to be on a rack. ou |

Re: home built trunk.
old uglyIf you wanted to use a rack you could put blocks to fill the gap between the top and bottom of rack. I'm thinking like 1 3/4". Just a thought, if it would be easier.

Re: home built trunk.
But the racks have side supports that would get in the way of his trunk. Raising it 1¾" would make it pretty high. I think OU idea of mounting to the frame extensions is a good compromise.

Re: home built trunk.
the trunk is going to be part of the car, i made the hold down bracket that will bolt to the rear spreader bar. keep it simple, its not a fancy car. home made is better for me.

Re: home built trunk.
here it is finished. color needs a bit of adjusting. but that will wait until i start fixing the rest of the car.
the original plan was to cover it but it seems pretty good the way it is now. ou |
