Loose window crank and door latch
No matter how tight I screw the set screw, in a couple hundred miles the window crank falls off and the door latch handle will spin because it is so loose.
I'm thinking of using blue Loctite, and before I do, any other suggestions? (Reproduction handles) |

Re: Loose window crank and door latch
On my car the window riser handles are held on with a spring and pin with the trim escutcheon plate. If yours have a set screw use the locktite.

Re: Loose window crank and door latch
There was a change in the window regulator shafts that the handle attaches to. Shafts on 28/29 & maybe early 1930 cars had a slot cut in the end of the shaft. When the handle was installed, the set screw lined up over the slot. When the set screw was tightened, it caused the slotted end of the shaft to spread such that the shaft “swelled” and got tighter inside the handle. The later shaft (30/31) had a hole drilled crosswise through the shaft and also through the collar of the handle. The handle was held in place by a 1/8 “ pin that went through the hole in the handle and the hole in the shaft. If you have the shaft with the hole rather than the slot, the set screw has nothing to “set” into and it will continue to loosen in use.
