If you're making the points plate, the real issue is trying to get the points in the right location - as even being just a bit off will screw up the timing on 4 cylinders. Back in the day, the manufacturers had jigs to ensure the timing was correct - doing a "one off" by manual methods would seem to be a bit problematic - unless you have a distributor machine and can take a few tries at it.
I would probably use a rotary table on my mill - to ensure that the number of degrees of rotation between the holes (side to side) are correct. I have a couple LZ distributors that I need to convert - maybe I'll give it a whirl! LOL Also, for those that don't know, you have to use a V8 distributor shaft/cam in the conversion. |
