ford 4100 series carbs
i sent my carb out and got it rebuilt, 1st time back the primary accelerator
gasket leaked out the bottom, 2nd time it came back it did the same thing, do i have an adjustment problem in linkage or could ethenol gas cause the seal to leak after only 10 miles of driving? i noticed there are 4 holes in the linkage that connects the pump to the linkage according to shop manual the rod should be in the 3rd hole down for 352 engine, mine was hooked into the 2nd hole down, does it make a differance? |

Re: ford 4100 series carbs
It sounds like there is an issue with the pump diaphragm installed by the rebuilder, or maybe the cover for the accel. pump diaphragm is warped from over tightening the 4 screws causing the leak. The ethanol in the fuel will not make a new diaphragm leak that quickly. Plus the carb kits made now have alcohol resistant parts.
With you're pump linkage installed in the 2nd hole down, instead of the 3rd hole down should be OK. All it does is make the pump operate slightly quicker. Main thing is to make sure the linkage rod to the pump lever is the correct length so there is no slop at the diaphragm end (no free-play at the diaphragm button). Hope this helps you out. Sal |

Re: ford 4100 series carbs
thanks so much for the info it helped, also i found a sharp edge on the cover plate that presses against the gasket, so very carefully file them of and sanded
with 600 sand paper, this may have been cutting into the gasket slightly thanks again bsky59 |
