Sure! Some people have had problems with Tilloston carbs. Some people have and problems with Zenith carbs are well.

If you are looking for a general condemnation of Tilloston carbs you won't. There are some common problems with them but there are common problems with any part of the Model A.

Sounding more like an ignition issue, probably something with the armored cable/ignition switch, than fuel related.

Make sure the points are shiny clean & gap is proper. Whenever points are a suspect, quick test: Take the plugs out, remove the dist body, & in the DARK, give it a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG crank while observing the points closely.
There should be a barely discernable, bluish/white arc!! If it FARTS out a yellow/orange flash, at times, the points are TRASH, or need a careful cleaning.

I'd like to know if the Zenith carb solves the problem.

Personally I run a Tilly. If you are trouble shooting you seem to be taking the most expensive route first and perhaps the most confusing way to find your way out.

Everything has been checked out, issue is gone with the zenith carb.must have been a defect in the tilly.

I think the most common problem you hear about with the Tilly
is they warp at the parting line.

And the warp is not fatal if it occurs around the bowl area. The bowl is naturally vented anyway and what's a little more vent?

We'll see. Definitely an excuse for more 'behind the wheel' time.

Well, any excuse is a good one...isn't it?

Is the fuel clean? Or are you occasionally finding sediment in the sediment bowl? Look in the tank, any stuff noticable?
I would keep the tilly under the seat as your spare.

I'm glad the problem is solved . As far as the Tilly is concerned I agree with Joe . A warp at the parting line isn't fatal and probably would have no effect on how it runs . The warp that causes problems such as vacume leaks , lean operation and backfire is usually at the mounting flange where it connects to the intake manifold . Over tightening and heat causes the flange to warp . Pot metal expands at a different rate than cast iron . Sometimes filing the flange flat will solve a vacume leak , lean run condition . Just a thought .
