Default Two Thumbs Up for Snyder's Aluminum Fan

I did a post on the aluminum fan a couple years ago, but a search didn't turn it up. A couple years ago I was sent 2 aluminum fans to check for balance. The balance was so good I didn't want to touch it. I also checked the blades for pitch, equal length, straightness, and leading edge of one being parallel to the other and found them both to be excellent.

The other day I was sent another aluminum fan to check for balance. Again I checked the taper fit to the water pump shaft, keyway depth, blade straightness, blade pitch, blade length, and parallelism, and it was excellent it every reguard. These are a vast improvement over what I was seeing about 5 or 6 years ago. For anyone affraid of running an original steel fan, I would recommend this aluminum fan.

A thin steel washer should be used under the castle nut when you install the aluminum fan.

Bert's, Bratton's, Mac's and the other sellers would all have the same aluminum fan made by Snyder's.

I have to agree. It's a terrific fan. I replaced my cracked steel fan a few years ago and replaced it with the aluminum fan.

Tom, In your testing with the Snyder's fans, Did you find any variations in the pulley V slot where the belt rides? I replaced my original fan with a new aluminum about 2 years ago. Found the belt was really tight after I had to remove the generator to get it installed. With the original it fit fine. The belt I insist to use is riding a tad higher in the pulley. Thanks!

I didn't check the V width with a belt, so I don't know how much higher the belt might ride. Since cast aluminum needs to be thicker than stamped steel I can imagine the V might be a little narrower, but it should also be possible to make the outsides of the V thicker and leave the center of the V standard. The V on the aluminum fan I just measured is .607", so it's .018" narrower than the ideal 5/8" belt width. Ideally the outside edge of the belt should ride even with the top of the V groove.

Thank you for sharing
For sure, first choice!

Tried to order that a year ago, but sadly it was not available at that time.
I had to switch to that black-plastic fan.
As its 6 blades are smaller in diameter, its mostly hidden and nobody
detected it to be plastic since.
Even i dont like plastic in my car, i will stick to it.

I would take your belt to the store and just buy one an inch longer.

Why do they keep changing the numbering system on tires and belts? It used to be easy to remember B44 if you wanted a 5/8" x 44" belt, but now I've seen different numbering systems used as well, so best to carry in your old belt to be sure.

I balanced the new Snyder fan (it was off some) then lapped it to the pump shaft ( it was also off a little). Peace of mind.

I had restored a '46 Ford a few years ago and threw a fan blade through the engine compartment and down onto the ground while on a tour. Check any kind of fan. Art
