Lebaron Bonney Roof Padding is mighty skinny!
Hello Gang, Well I've had some good luck, my Lebaron Bonney roof kit has arrived, so I thought I would try posting a picture( one of these days I will succeed) the roof rubber itself looks pretty good it does have a fabric backing of some sort so might be strong, but I cannot believe this little skiff of see-through quote "padding" will do the job,I think its supposed to be 1/4 thick at least? This is practically nothing.Does anyone have any better recomendations ? I know foam is bad, where would I get cotton? Thanks a lot! Kev

Any quilt supply store carries various thicknesses of polyester padding that works very well. Gar Williams

I've got tons of the quilt padding downstairs. (My wife is an avid quilter) But then again, my Budd cab is a hardtop!

Give it 10 or 15 years and the foam will start to crumble. -- Oh Wait, none of us will be around here by then

I used 1/2" padding from thte fabric dept at Wal-Marts with a Denim cover as well. I also used some vinyl strips stapled to the roof bows prior to installing anything.
Came out great. Stretched it in some sunlight of course. It was still cold up here at the time. |

Re: Lebaron Bonney Roof Padding is mighty skinny!
Thank you all for your help, Don I really liked your idea of using a blanket, and hey I didn't have to look very far to find this one , it says '100 percent polyester Made in the USA" ( must be a mistake?!) Its about 1/8th inch thick, maybe doubled up it would be about right?
Someone asked about foam, I have used that on a few projects through the years ( not A's) and I have found it would break down and crumble after a few years.I'd like this to last a long time, cotton sounds good but I am worried it might ball up and separate in time? I will check around locally and see what I can find out, googling doesn't hurt either! Thanks again,Kev |
