34 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
I just pulled this 3 Window out of the barn, stored there since 1958. It originally had a trunk but now has a rumble seat lid with hinges attached to the lid. I don't think there are any brackets or whatever attached to the body. What else do I need? Where can I get the parts? I see that several places have the parts for the 5 Window but specify that they are not for the 3 Window.
ALSO: Does anyone have a useable take out interior for this car? I may be interested! Last edited by Brewsterbuff; 08-05-2019 at 07:22 PM. Reason: Correct year |

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
That's a very highly sought after 34 3 window. The fenders, running boards, lights etc. are common to all body styles, the rear panel is (could be wrong here) coupe only. (Not at all sure on that).
What I'm saying is that you can search for parts from other models than a 3W coupe. The rumble lid hinges are not at the lower edge, they are down inside the sides, they are available as repro., as might be most parts you need. |

Great find ,at the sides of the trunk you should have two side panels with five holes in them this takes the diamond shape part of the hinge, that joins the A bracket shape that's screwed to the lid ,its common to both three and five window ,

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
You are very lucky. That car is a '34 (or '33) three-window (which is better than a '36 I should know; I had one of each). It is an excellent car, but you should try to find out all you can about it until you know what you really have.
I hate to have to say this, but if you can't tell the difference between a Model 40 and a Model 68, you should try to hook up with some local old Ford guys so you can do this car justice. |

Definitely 34 noting hood, grill, and window reveals.

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
Agree with TJ, my avatar roadster body had a rumble when I got it and I wish I had switched it with ALL the metal work I had to do with it. Oh well.

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
The rumble seat hinge components are common with the 5-window, cabriolet, and roadster. There was no outside handle on the coupes and cabriolet, only on the roadster. The latch is controlled inside the cab right behind the package tray on the right side. The coupe and cabriolet lids are spring assisted and when properly adjusted will gently open the lid fully when the latch is deactivated inside the car.
I'd guess that a strainer to support the upper back panel and lid latch attached thereto was not added. PM me if you want photos of the various components involved if you are interested in retaining a rumble seat. Because of the number of hobbyists who prefer trunks to rumble seats, anything not reproduced is normally easy to obtain as take-offs. |

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
Wash it off and Get the mechanical parts going. Drive it for a few years. If you want to do more, then do it. Have a plan, Oh wait... YOU won't, judging by your others in a picture. (I don't know you) Congratulations!!!
To all. Did they have trunk lid options in 32-34???? . Last edited by Tinker; 08-05-2019 at 04:27 PM. |

Re: 36 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
My 33 5W has the trunk, as built and it was one of the boxes ticked when I was considering buying it.

Re: 34 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
MY ERROR! I proof read that entry many times but missed the fact that I said it was a '36. Guess I only read the message and not the title. HISTORY: A life long buddy of mine, from 1st grade on, went to Cornell University in 1956. He bought this car while there in Binghamton, NY, probably in 1956. He quickly got talked out of it and sold to to another buddy, who later married my sister. I took PA title to it on June 26,1958 and stored it in a rented building in the suburban Philadelphia area until I took a job with VW in York PA, bought a small farm property, got married, moved all of my cars from Phila. to York, and put this in the back of the barn. (We moved 17 cars in the month before we got married) It sat there, in my barn from mid 1963 until Saturday, August 3, 2019 when we moved it to the garage/shop. It does have all of the original steel fenders and running boards, original gas tank cover, original spare carrier and spare tire cover, correct 17" wire wheels, and original correct headlights. By Sunday afternoon we had it checked out and running, sounded pretty good, didn't overheat. I hope to take it to Hershey in the HPOF class, AS IT SITS, DIRT AND ALL! Must try to get it all back together and dependable enough to DRIVE it onto the show field. If you go to Hershey look us up in the Orange Flea Market field spaces OAG 29-32, near light pole 122, listed in the directory under Brewsters.

Re: 34 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
I had a 33 coupe with a rumble seat, I finally converted it back to a trunk as it was completely useless as a rumble.

Re: 34 3 Window Coupe - Barn Find
I have a 32 Cabriolet - and they all came with rumble seats as far as I know.
Yes, a trunk is more usable (in today's world), but then HOW do you expect to give rides to kids and other folks who have never seen or ridden in a rumble seat. I'm glad I have a rumble seat - with the leather interior that I had made, really is nice looking (my opinion obviously). But yes - not convenient for trips . . . too damn bad. Here is how it looks. We spruced things up a bit - kind of an early 40's custom type look, added side-pockets to match the front, etc.. You either like it - or you hate it.
