Late 31 zenith 2 carb rethread
Has anyone ever repaired the threads in the side bowl gas inlet?? its 1/2--20 N.F. . I ran a tap through but it leaks like a sive from there . the threads are in pretty bad shape as you can see from the picture. I'm thinking maybe using a heli coil . but don't know if it will work. Maybe braze the thread and then re-tap? this is gonna be a tough one,any help is always appreciated. thanks THE HOOCH

From the looks of the picture it looks like you need to reface the seat for the ferrule, or maybe use an O-ring in there. That's where it seals.

Re: Late 31 zenith 2 carb rethread
I would drill out the threads and press in a steel bushing and tap the bushing for 1/2-20 nf It is worth trying to save, scarce.

When a modern blows out a spark plug, helicoil makes a bushing that is threaded into the head. Maybe they make the 1/2-20 NF ? Most local auto parts store can help.

Re: Late 31 zenith 2 carb rethread
IMHO not enough metal left to safely take a helicoil.

Re: Late 31 zenith 2 carb rethread
The carburetor top you have is for the late 1931 with indented firewall, the sediment bulb attaches to the carburetor, and the gas line attaches to the sediment bulb. photo #1
If you are using the sediment bulb the seal between the carburetor and the sediment bulb is made with two gaskets, one at the carburetor inlet and one at the head of the bolt that is used to attach the sediment bulb to the carburetor. The mating surfaces on the carburetor and the sediment bulb where the gasket seats, has to be a good flat parallel surface to allow the gaskets to seal. Photo #2 If you are using this carburetor without the sediment bulb the seal of the gas line is made between the seat at the inlet connection to the carburetor and the ferrule on the gas line. The seat at the inlet connection needs to be resurfaced using a Dremel ball grinding stone #911 so the ferrule on the gas line will seal. Photo #3
