Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
Guys,
I agree with DavidG that the locking hubcap was designed for the side mount spares only. It clearly states this in the November 1932 Ford Service Bulletins on page 73. Also no lower or upper bands exist for the 32 Ford. No part number and no referance in the parts book. And you can't use 1933 1934 Ford bands as they were designed for a 17" tire not a 18" as used on a 32 Ford. Bill Monzo |

Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
I am going to put the strap on the shelf as suggested as it is not 1932. What is the correct color blue to paint the center and does anyone make it?

Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
The original name of the color was "Harding Blue", but I doubt if that will prove helpful in finding a match. I believe that some of the usual parts suppliers offer the paint. The paint that sign painters use (named something like Bullseye One-Shot) comes in a blue color that is a dead ringer for the original.

Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
I have a couple of 32 straps that are the part of the locking straps that attach to the tire carrier. They have recepticals for the locks. They are earier than the locking hubcap but I think they would work with the caps. The receptical would be removed.

Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
The color DavidG is reffering to is by One Shot and is Reflex blue 155L!!! I just completed a set of locking caps for our 32. Here is the "reflex" blue from One shot also compared to the latest 32 regular reproduction hub cap currently being sold!!! Locking cap is the bottom cap (Reflex Blue), picture 2

Re: 1932 Ford Locking Hubcap
Since the learning never stops and this thread started out inquiring about the straps that attach to the cap and to the rear spare tire/wheel bracket, please refer to the Early Ford V8 Club website (left hand column, "Ford Information", then "Ford Book Additions and Corrections", then "1932 Ford Book second update") and you will find copies of the original engineering drawings for the subject straps for use with a locking hubcap on a rear-mounted spare tire/wheel. Simultaneously, please ignore my previous comments on this thread suggesting that it did not exist.
