Default Excess oil pressure?

I changed the oil today in my 39 truck. Previous owner did not have a filter in the housing. I added the correct filter, now U'm getting excess pressure and it is pushing oil out between the housing and lid, and I am making certain the gasket is seated properly. Any thoughts?

We don't know if it's excess pressure or just a leaking canister.

What does the oil pressure gauge say?

Problem fixed. I cleaned out the inside of the canister lid and put the old gasket back in. No leak. It appears the gasket that was supplied with the filter was too small diameter.

Oil pressure gauge shows around 25 at idle
