Default Twisted cylinder head

I thought the twisted and or warped cylinder head problem was taken care of. Now I,m going to have to pay returning it and probably end up replaced with one that is worse than than the one I have on my bench. Anybody else having this problem.

Dennis, seems we are not up to speed on the original problem, need more information. Is it a new head? Where did you come by it and who supposedly fixed the problem?

I remember reading somewhere some the Snyder heads had to be milledthey were either not flat or they were twisted. I thought I’d try a 5.5 head this time. Right out of the box with a straight edge one corner and the middle of the end which is the rear is off. I know my block is perfect, less than .001 so tomorrow I think I’ll set it on the block to see what I have. Something I noticed on my 6.0 and this 5.5 is they are both shorter than a stock head and don’t go to the edge of the gasket.

Dave came from a different vendor sealed up with a Snyder box as usual. Yes new head. Another thing I don’t care for on these heads, should actually say the engine builder milled too much of the top of my block. There’s not enough clearance between the piston and head. Too little squish area. I don’t think you need 120 psi compression test.

Have you measured the piston to head clearance? For efficiency and resistance to detonation, you want the piston as close as possible without danger of touching. How much was milled off the block? If too much, the block could possibly distort when the head is torqued, causing part of your problem. Original pistons were above the block surface at TDC.

Measuring the piston protrusion and clearance, the depth of cut in the head for clearance will have to wait for awhile as I am having back problems right now.

I had my 5.5 milled because it wasn’t straight right out of the box.

This one had to be trued up as well..knocked the relief clean off #4,my engine has zero protrusion so it set up fine for me,ran real good too. The actual compression difference is small, your eye says no,but the math says yes..

I have had to surface several of the heads especially the 6-1 heads fresh out of the box.
I dont know what the time frame is between the casting and machining or if there is a heat treat process involved but they are maybe being machined “green” (not seasoned long enough)and taking a set after their machined. Tod says their straight when they leave his place and I believe him, with his equipment they should be perfect. I don’t know if storing them waiting to sell could do it who knows.
Some have been low in the middle, some twisted and others off on one end.
I do know once their resurfaced they don’t move again.
