So a few questions, I installed it successfully, and it works great, as I drove it around for a few weeks. But here are two things that went astray I need some advice for, the first one is: it is getting some condensation or some thing on the inside of the glass while I was driving it? See photo.

The second is, at some point I had to disconnect the battery for a non-related issue, when I reconnected the battery, the on off feature would click on and off as I connected-disconnected the battery, and now when I drive the car it stays in the off position…. Any thoughts?

The pressure sender is not working correctly or at all.

Digger, The reason your gauge is fogging up is because it is getting hot inside which is caused by a high resistance or loose or bad connections on the ammeter connections either inside the gauge case or outside the gauge case. Make sure your ammeter terminal connections are clean and tight. Test the oil gauge by removing the wire from the oil sender terminal and grounding it on the engine block which should move the oil gauge to ON. Take the wire off ground and the gauge should go to OFF. If the gauge does not do this then it is faulty. From my observations the reproduction gauges ammeter only goes to 20 amps charge and discharge whereas the original gauges go to 30 amps. Regards, Kevin.

Kevin, I doubt that this is a repro gauge if it has a 1949 date inscribed on the back so must have come with 20amp readings as well.

Graham

That 49 date is on the back of the speedometer, not the Oil Chex gauge.

Kevin was spot on with the knowledge! The amp meter wires were very loose, so I tightened them up snug and took it for a test drive and it cured the fogging of the glass. Now regarding the other test you mentioned, should I be doing that with the engine running or not, or does it matter? It’s still doing the symptom where the battery is fully connected the word “ON” appears whether the on off switch is in either position

The oil ON - OFF indicator gets its power from the ammeter internally. So the car battery needs to be connected but the ignition switch does not need to be ON or the engine running. Did you test the gauge by disconnecting the sender wire off the sender and grounding it and then not grounding it which should rock the gauge to ON & OFF. Regards, Kevin.
