Default How much play (movement) should there be in a gen pulley?

Hey guys. Question. How much play or movement should be in a 6V generator pulley. I have had it re built but when the car is going I hear it make a audible clunk noise . I turned the engine off and I can rock the pulley back and forth not too sloppy but enough to replicate the sound I am hearing . Is this normal ?

There should be no end play of a generator armature (and therefore no fan end play). Perhaps the pulley is loose on the end of the armature.

Thanks David . I have had this gen rebuilt twice and the movement in the pulley keeps coming back. I have followed the 41 ford Manual for correct belt tension and it still works loose. I will pull it and replace it I guess .

Can you post a photo of the generator?
Some pulleys required a clip at the end of the armature shaft. That clip is very oft times absent.
There's really no "good" reason this continues to happen and is most likely as easy fix.
