Toyota doesn't build anything to compete with either of those!! Or a Hemi Cuda, Cobra-jet Mustang, Buick Gran Sport, Olds 442, Pontiac GTO. All gone into history now.

I've been a chevy guy all of my life, because my dad was. Sadly a chevy ain't a true chevy any more. As for NAPA they sponsor a rice burner and have no loyalty to this country. Their only loyalty is to high profits.

As shipping prices are sky rocketing local American companies are gaining some advantage. It's cheaper to ship locally. Big Brown ads are begging companies to think internationally as their long distance rates keep increasing. That's actually helping U.S. factories.

being in Canada geting parts made in "north america" would be nice, then japan, now as all have said who knows where! Owned one jap car a Mazda rotary, now it's Dodge and of course a 48 Ford. If there were more cars and parts for them built in US and Canada more people would have jobs and could buy more things made here. Just think of all the good stuff we couldget then!!! Laurie

All items manufactured in the USA carry at least a 50% tax burden. Taxes range from state and federal corporate income tax to surcharges on telephone calls. Real Estate, county, social security, business licenses, fuel taxes, unemployment taxes, work mens compensation on and on and on.
These taxes make us non competitive in the world economy.

I would mention Ethanol but I think one of the monitors is from Iowa and he will delete this tread.

Never under estimate the power of a large group of stupid people.

I do not think there is a better country to live in than the USA. I just wish people would quit trying to change it to a country that everybody is trying to escape from.

If they want socialism go to a socialism country and live there. They will want to come back to the USA.

Another great point. The majority of the reason why food prices are going up is due to the large amount of the corn harvest now going to ethanol product.

In one way, I'm glad to see American farmers getting their due. But is coming by way of an artificially inflated market with gas/oil & corn being sold a commodity-market system.

I received an OSHA reporting form in the mail last week. Fines and prison is possible if the form is not completed. The governments estimated time to complete the form was something like four to twelve hours. I will have to have support from the office administrator, the superintendents and the accountants to complete this report. This is time that could be spent making customer calls, estimating new projects, checking on existing projects and filing other government reports. This is a big expense. not only do companies have to pay all of these tax burdens but you have to do all kinds of paper work to pay the taxes. Not only are the taxes passed on to the consumer but the overhead related to all of the paper work is passed on to the consumer. The last project dealt with game fish and parks, BLM, Corp of engineers, EPA federal and state. I had to hire a person to take these people around the project site. The thing that was madding was they would not wear the safety gear that was required by their laws. We conformed but they would not conform to their own rules and regulations.

Do not get me started on the stupidity of ethanol. I think one of the monitors is from Iowa and he will delete this tread.

I own my first Jap car and am very happy with it. I had always owned Ford products in the past until my 99 Taurus came along. That car hundred dollared me to death with a lot of repairs that I never had to make on any car in the past. My 86 F150 had a rod knock at 40,000 miles caused by an engineering boo boo. I had it for 18 years and was sorry to see it go, but Ford never had a recall to correct the problem that dumped crankcase vapors into the # 8 intake runner and caused varnish on the cylinder walls which caused # 8 rod bearing to fail or a hole in the #8 piston. This was not corrected by Ford until 1989. I don't think there are many V8 Ford F150s out there of that vintage. Ford gave the pickup market to Chevy and Toyota.

I owned allot of Chevy pickups with no trouble, then I got hooked on Ford E-250 cargo vans, bought one new in 94 put 200K on it and another in 03 150K on it so far, Other than adjustable king pins to get the front wheels to stand up (on both) I've had no trouble. Ford knows about that problem too, but from 94 to 03 did nothing.

I went to a bearing place a few years ago for bearings to restore a mid 1950's Craftsman jointer for my wood shop. I forget which country the bearings were made in but it wasn't USA or China. They told me that no one makes bearings in the USA now, all are foreign made.

Not me, I have only owned one foreign car (65 VW) in my 70 years of life and never ever plan to own another one. Some how the American public has come to believe Foreign made cars are better than what is made in this country. I 1994 Olds 88 LSS got as good or better millage in comfort than most od the smaller foreign cars, usually 32 to 33 MPH at 75 miles per hour
